May 15, 2017 - The Fort Seward, Inc. board is lining up the final details and arrangements for our wagon train in June. Trail Trackers have been busy planning the route of the trail also. If you are coming on this years wagon train, don't forget to printout a copy of our Handy Packing List.
Apr. 6, 2017 - Great news! Spring is here in ND, little baby calves and horse foals are being born on our many area farms and ranches. Fort Seward is going to do some real "horsing around" this year too. We are setting up a booth at the MN Horse Fest this April. So, if you are attending that, come and see us!
To celebrate our MN Horse Fest adventure, instead of ending our group discount code on March 31st, like we normally do, we are extenting our 10% group discount through April 30th! So, if 3 or more of you register together at same time, and at least 1 is an Adult, you can still take advantage of this group discount!

Oct. 13, 2016 - Well, we hope each of you are enjoying the beautiful fall weather. But we feel for the people on the lower east coast who have hand to deal the recent hurricane. Here in the Northern Midwest, lately our night time temperatures are starting to get more regularly below freezing temps. The farmers are busy working on harvesting their row crops.
The board has been meeting regularly and with the new fiscal year, they have now started working on the details for the 2017 wagon train. There is a lot of things to consider and decisions to be made, like what direction, where to, what dates, are there any local community events the wagon train could join. We will make further announcements in this area when details are confirmed and official.
June 25, 2016 - Today the wagon train ended and what a nice week to travel in. There were a couple days that were pretty warm, just a little bit of rain, and some very nice pleasant weather too. The greatest part was meeting with all the nice people who joined us! People who came on our 2016 wagon train came from the following States: GA, IA, IL, MA, MN, ND, OR, SD, WA, WI, and even a person from London, UK.
Thank you to the staff members, many of which volunteer their work. Thank you to the area Landowners and local businesses who helped to make this event possible. Without the efforts of each of you, our annual wagon train would not be possible. It was a pleasure to share this modern pioneer experience with all of you!
June 20, 2016 - Yesterday was wagon train registration and origination, and what a nice bunch of people going on this years wagon train! The weather forecast for the week is not that bad either. But, likely to be on the warm side in the afternoons. This morning the trail riders packed up their gear, at breakfast, and were hoping to be off on their adventure by 8 am. Plans are to be back by next Saturday. Our prayers are they all keep safe, and have an enjoyable modern pioneer adventure this week.
June 10, 2016 - Wow! The wagon train is just a little over a week away! The trail is tracked, and all the last minute preparations have the board members very busy. The board and staff of Fort Seward, Inc. are looking forward to meeting our trail riders on June 19th. Each year when the wagon train comings, it just make the board members excited to go again. They each look forward to the event with a special passion they have for this wagon train.
Hopefully we will have good weather that week. Lately it's been like July summer weather in June. But, in ND, for clothing...layers work well! As weather often changes from very warm to very cool. So, t-shirt, sweatshirt, jacket, and raincoat, might be very nice to have on all at the same time, or just the t-shirt at other times while traveling on the day time trail. Just be sure to print out a copy of our Handy Packing List, as it will really help you make good choices on what to bring and have with you on the wagon train.
May 30, 2016 - We hope everyone had a great memorial weekend. We also want to take a little time in thought to appreciated those Veterans who served for our country, as well as remember those family and friends we loved, who are no longer with us.

November 21, 2015 - The Board of Fort Seward, Inc. received more sad news. It is with deep sorrow we heard this morning of the passing of our Head Cook, Joanne Lorenz. She has been cooking for our annual wagon trains since 1969, and was not known to be in bad health. She passed away quickly, a week after Mary Young.
We will be upholding both of these families and their friends, in our thoughts and prayers.
November 16, 2015 - The Board of Fort Seward, Inc. was saddened to hear of the passing of our former Founder/Board Member, Historian, and Head Cook, Mary Faith Young, on Nov. 14, 2015. Mary was one special lady, and our Sincere Simpathy goes to her family.
July 2015 - We want to say "Thank You!" to all the individuals, property/land owners, participants, and staff who helped make our 2015 wagon train possible and successful. We sincerely appreciated all of your efforts. This wagon train is only possible because of all of your group efforts. THANK YOU!
June 27, 2015 - Well, our 2015 wagon train started out with a night time rain storm after registration and orientation. And a few trail riders found out their tents were not as good as they had thought and got soaked. But following morning our modern pioneers headed out on the trail for six days of travel. They arrive at Carrington, ND to parade down city streets, and then sadly departed to go home leaving their new found friends.
It was an interesting and fun week. Sometimes the weather got a little warmer then some liked, but as usual, it gave our modern pioneers an adventure and a feel for what the real pioneers felt during the early days of our Nation. An excellent history lesson too!
We want to thank the various Businesses, Individuals, Landowners, and our Volunteer Staff for all your donations to make our annual wagon train possible. We also want to thank our participants, who made the experience worth well for all of us. THANK YOU!
May 8, 2015 - After some really nice weather and the farmers working hard like crazy to seed some fields, North Dakota has fallen back into a cold spell this weekend. Our Board Members have been very busy now, working out the final details of the 2015 wagon train. It's coming up soon! If you have not registered yet, be sure to do so to reserve your wagon train seating.

Mar. 16, 2015 - Wow! There are signs in North Dakota that spring will be coming earlier this year. Yesterday in Jamestown, it got to be 72°, which is a bit warm for mid-March, when generally the highs are in the lower 60's.

July 24, 2013 - We want to say THANK YOU! to everyone who helped to make this years wagon train both enjoyable and a success. Each and everyone of you made it possible. The landowners, City of Jamestown, several businesses in Jamestown, several individuals who did not come on the wagon train, those who rented us needed equipment, farriers that made their appointments, the staff members, and each of the participants. All worked their magic to pull this event together and make it possible!
The board just had another meeting to settle up details and bills for the 2013 wagon train. They were very happy with all the people who came and also became like family during the week. They were especially happy that mother nature spared our modern pioneers from the heavy spring rains that were happening just prior to the wagon train. Warm sunny weather made the wagon train much more enjoyable!
The board will need at least one more meeting to close the books on 2013 and then they will start to plan the 2014 wagon train around September. Please check back in Nov. or Dec. for annoucements about the 2014 wagon train.

So far it has been a snowy winter for us in central and eastern ND. It's sometimes hard to schedule meetings and get enough board members to attend because of the weather. But we have been doing it and getting a lot of details worked out.
The next news will probably be on the Quilt Contest, as the snowy weather has delayed that.
We finally have some good news on the DVD too. Sorry for the delay though. Thank you to everyone who sent photos in January and Feburary, to help with the missing video from wagon families #6 through #11. We are not sure if the camcorder just did not record the video that day, or if the mini-DVD recorded that day just got lost on the trail. We had several people hunting for it a long time, back tracking, inside of vehicles, inside of drawers, boxes, and in many other places, to no avail.
So, we went with what we had and the good pictures we received. This week the final edited version is being burned to DVD and will be shipped out to all those who made a donation to get one. We want to Thank everyone who helped to get this video finally completed.
Dec. 16, 2012 - Good news! Registration for the 2013 wagon train is open.
Sorry our 2012 wagon train DVD is delayed. Some of the footage of the wagon train families turned up missing. And tracking it down has been an ordeal. If we don't find the missing DVD by Christmas, we will order the DVD finished with the video we have. In the meantime, we are hoping for a little Christmas miracle, that the missing camcorder DVD will turn up someplace. Otherwise, we will be shipping them out later in January with what we have. Sorry for this delay, but it's important to us to include all the wagon families...if we can.
Have a Blessed Christmas and New Year!
Nov. 02, 2012 - The board is now in the early planning stages to plan the 2013 wagon train. The name of the event will be: "Two Revers Trail". It will be held June 23rd through 29th. Registrations will be opening soon. Just a few more details to work out for that yet.
Oct. 16, 2012 - The board will be meeting again this month yet, to do more planning for the 2013 wagon train.
Concerning the 2012 DVD, we had some issues/delays with getting the video into our editiors hands, then some more issues with the video itself. Which put a crimp on our editors busy time schedule to be able to work on the 2012 video, all of which is delaying getting the video out. Hopefully it will be completed and sent out late November or early December for your Holiday viewing. Sorry for the delay that these issues caused.
Sept. 24, 2012 - Mark your vacation calendar for 2013, dates are:

June 22, 2012 - Summer is here! And the weathermen are guessing the week of the wagon train the temps will be around 80 degrees. The board and staff have been very busy the last two weeks with all the last minute preps. If you haven't left for the wagon train yet, don't forget to go through our Handy Packing Check List (.pdf) one more time!

Please visit our wagon train store if you have not already made a donation to get a copy for yourself.
July 4, 2011 - Happy Independance Day! We hope you spent this special day enjoying the company of family and friends. The wagon train started out to be a wet one, which was not so easy for either the staff or the participants, as both wagons and support vehicles had gotten stuck in the mud. But, it certainly gave all of us a taste of what it was like for the pioneers. The the last half of the wagon train finished up with nice warm days and so much more fun to enjoy each others company. What a nice bunch of people to travel with this year!
June 15, 2011 - It's been rainy this month. But the board and staff are taking every spare minute they have to do the final preps for this years wagon train. We are getting excited, and hoping for a little more sunshine next week, then what we have had so far this month.

Sorry for the delay on getting our registrations open for 2011. Our Wagon Train Registrar needed some time off to help her mother deal with health issues and passing. So, we did not want to burden her with December wagon train registrations. She and her family have our support and sincere sympathy.
However, planning continues for the 2011 wagon train and we hope to open registrations soon in January. Watch for our announcements.

Jamestown, ND as well as many other places in North Dakota, are having some flooding issues at the moment, due to all the melting snow. But we are all coping with the water and mud problems the best we can. And soon things should dry up to normal so we can track the trail for the 2009 wagon train.
I haven't gotten the latest state report on those signed up for the wagon train. There is a little computer problem that our Registrar hopes will be fixed soon so she can do the updates report.
February 18, 2009 - To date, we have registrations that have come in from 8 states: IA, IN, MI, NC, OH, OR, WA, WI.

July 28, 2008: The board and staff want to Thank everyone for helping the 2008 wagon train to be possible and successful. We had a fine bunch of humanity on this years wagon train. Hot days, cool days, and a little rain all added to the pioneer experience too. For the most part this was one great wagon train with a lot of nice people from all over the USA.
The board members are busy taking care of business to close down this fiscal year. Once the business for this years wagon train is finalized they will start their planning committees up for the 2009 wagon train. Board members and staff are really huslting getting together the last minute details for the 2008 wagon train. One more meeting is planned for this coming weekend to finish up the details.
States represented are: CA, CT, FL, GA, HA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, MA, MI, MN, MO, NC, ND, NE, NJ, NM, NY, OH, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, WA, and WI. Probably the most number of states we have ever had represented on any one of our wagon trains at the same time!
Don't forget to pack along a few small items for "Barter Night", so you have something along to do a little old time trad'n with other wagon train participants. Some little handmade crafty type items, shoulder patches, candy, and sovieners from your own state trade well. A couple items is fine, some participants bring more, just for the fun of trad'n.
And be sure to print out a copy of our Handy Packing Check List (.pdf). Our weather the last few weeks has been windy with cool nights and some rain. The last few days it has gotten much warmer. Plan for both cool and warm weather when packing your gear. We have some very good suggestions on what to bring in our Handy Packing Check List (.pdf).
Jan. 23, 2008: Wow! Just as we suspected, our wagon seating for the 2008 wagon train appears to be booked full. But we can still accept more individuals who plan to come with their own saddle horses.

and let the Registrar know what number of people you would like to be placed on the waiting list. She will place you on a waiting list by turn, and will let you know if an opening becomes available for your number of individuals.
